NATTASHA ZAINAL from Kelana Jaya is peeved with Citibank for being charged government tax for a credit card she never received.

She tells Hotline that as she is applying for a housing loan from another bank, she went to Bank Negara on May 13 to check her Central Credit Reference Information System (CCRIS).

She says she was shocked to discover her name listed under the “Special Attention Account" by Citibank.

She called Citibank immediately to seek clarification  and was even more surprised to be informed she has a credit card from the bank.

While she admits applying for their credit card some time ago, NATTASHA claims she never heard from the bank about her application, nor did she ever receive the card.

“The customer service personnel told me even though I did not receive the card, Citibank had still charged me RM50 for the government tax," she says.

NATTASHA adds the bank personnel then performed a reversal to waive the RM50 government tax and assured her, she would be cleared after May 15, when the CCRIS submission report ends.

After 15 days, however, NATTASHA says her name has yet to be cleared.

"How can a big bank like Citibank charge me this RM50 for a credit card I never received, let alone use?

“I am having a major problem getting my housing loan approved because of Citibank," she says.

NATTASHA adds her complaints to them seem to have fallen on deaf ears.

● CITI Malaysia Corporate Affairs head Jaya Menon says the case has been resolved and NATTASHA has been informed accordingly.

NATTASHA, when contacted, tells Hotline she received an emailed apology from Citibank, a waiver of the RM50, and also a release letter clearing her of the matter.

She has accepted the apology and states she is waiting for the outcome of her housing loan application.
